– Performance#2

Title: 22 stops

Venue: Romantso

Date: 20 March 2017

Hour: 19:00 - 22:00

A two-hour, walking, site-specific, Butoh performance that takes place in Vrilissia, Athens, in the context of ANIMFEST, and specifically MULTIMATION-Metamorphosis#1, curated by Vermeire Geert.

2 hours, 22 sites, 22 improvisational Butoh compositions. During a two-hour walk, the body, being responsive to the urban environment and using the principles of Butoh dance, such as slow movement, energized stillness, and sculptural form, will create 22 improvisational compositions in 22 sites. These 22 dance compositions will attempt not only to illuminate the beauty of the familiar and the everyday, but also to explore the different dynamics by which the body may permeate a space or may be absorbed by it.

The specific performative journey will be recorded via photography and the photographic material, after being transmuted into video, will invigorate a new Butoh performance that will be presented the same evening at "N. Engonopoulos" Hall at Vrilissia.

The Butoh body will coexist and converse with a series of photographs in an attempt to recreate, reconstruct, and re-enact in the present moment sites and dances that are etched in the body’s memory.

"22 stops" invites us to see again and re-imagine shared spaces, practices and art forms.
