The musical group MELOS of the Laboratory of Music Acoustics and Technology of the Department of Music Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens consists of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students of the Department of Music Studies, coordinated by Professor Anastasia Georgaki, Department of Music Studies, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

The main concern of the MELOS musical form is the projection of the melodic poetry by contemporary musicians in a wide range of poems from ancient Greek literature to modern poetry exploring the metrics, rhythm, melodies and orchestration of Ancient and Modern Greek with respect to music structure and style of text with the help of Music Technology tools.

In the tribute to the poetry of Sappho we will present musical excerpts of Sappho from Greek-Greek creators such as Νikos Xidakis, Μichalis Terzis, Dimitris Papadimitriou and the ancient texts such as Μanos Hadjidakis, Alice Markantonatos, Ιoannis Stratakis, etc.

The texts will recite to the Aeolian dialect the performer of ancient texts Ioannis Stratakis.

Assistant Professor Evgenia Makrygian (Faculty of Philosophy, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens) will comment on the sources of the Sapphic Project and Assistant Professor Stelios Psaroudakis (Department of Music Studies, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens) will present the metrical approach of lyric poetry.
